Week 2

Updated: Apr 1, 2019

Week 2 started off with collecting a list of materials from places such as B&Q and Brewers and then delivering them to the decorator ready to be prepared for a project. I also collected some things to prepare schemes for a client meeting for Sarah, later on in the day. When I was in the office I did general offices tasks such as answering the phone and shadowing other members of staff to see what they were doing.

My route to pick up supplies in the local area

Wilson

This week I have been learning how to fill out client schedules. Below is an example of a schedule for a client. For this I was asked to input information about products that could be used in the space. There are details such as the product name and code, as well as the supplier and trade price. The excel document uses all of this information to generate quotes to present to the client. I did this schedule page myself, and called suppliers to find trade prices for ALL the fabrics and items.

Example of Schedule

Wykeham

Below is a quick snap of some client boxes I arranged for Sarah ahead of her meeting on Wednesday 13th March. As you can see, I used cork board tiles on the bottom of each and arranged the samples in a way that clearly communicates the scheme of each room. The tags show which room each box is. I assisted Sarah in choosing some of the paint colours for the rooms, as well as wallpaper fabrics. For this particular show home scheme is was very blue and brass throughout.

De Ploeg - Sustainable Fabrics

When looking for materials for the 'Wilson' project, I looked at this sustainable fabric from De Ploeg, a Dutch based company. I rang the rep, Sian, to find out trade prices and information about the product. This particular fabric we will be using as curtain sheers is called "SEA 08" and is made from washed up plastic. The washed up plastic is carefully collected by volunteers from project U-turn. By doing this, De Ploeg is helping to minimise resources and keep beaches clean.

"The reclaimed waste is added to the spinning process using an innovative recycling technique and is made into a strong yarn. De Ploeg combines this with softer materials to create a curtain fabric with a lovely feel. The natural, earthy character of the material makes it hard to believe that it contains plastic bottles, bags and fishnets. The fact that plastic does not decompose is now an advantage: SEA is hard wearing and sustainable."

Reflection

Week 2 was really fun, I have gotten to know people around the office more (they're all really nice!!) and been given lot's of tasks to get on with. I have been given the chance to assist Sarah in putting together schemes for the Wykeham project and was left to arrange them in client boxes ready for the meeting. I initially found the schedule work difficult, as there are lots of things to input, but once I had spent time on it, I really began to get the hang of it. I found that shadowing Nadine was really helpful as I could then see how she does things, this helped me to make sure I was doing things correctly. My notebook is slowly filling up with all the notes I've been taking!! I feel that the team at WN Interiors are really getting me involved in different projects and making me feel really welcome
