During week 7 I took a break from work experience to go back to working my normal part time job at Tesco (this definitely is NOT as fun as working in an interiors firm but it'll do). I used my week off to also begin some of my documentation and research work.

Portsmouth

Week 8 is the first week back after easter, I feel well rested and ready to get back to working. Today (Tuesday) started off with catching up in the office - this is the first week everyone is back together and able to get up to speed on work. I spoke to Sarah and Nick a little about the Portsmouth student accommodation project, and they assigned me some work to get on with over the course of the day. I used the architects plans and pictures of the site to create 3D models on Google Sketchup of the ground floor and common space. These models are to act as a shell so that we can easily drop furniture in there and see what the space will look like in a more visual 3D way rather than just sketching.

Below is the start of each of my models.

Bath

This week has also been exciting as the project in Bath was finally finished and the apartments have been added to booking.com an online booking website where you can book hotels and apartments to stay in. It has been really interesting seeing such a quick turnaround of the project, to see the apartments as empty shells, to fully furnished and ready to go apartments -

Reflection

Due to bank holiday and being ill this week, I was only in for one day unfortunately, but this day was very productive and I was able to finish the 3D model shells of the student accommodation space as well as do more general office work including reviewing documents and helping to answer the phones and take messages for people in meetings. I am looking forward to getting back properly next week. The end of my placement here at WN Interiors is fast approaching and I can't believe how quickly it has gone! I feel like so far I have learnt a lot in terms of what it is like working in the design field in the real world, and what it is like to work with a team.
