Week 5

I decided to stay with WN Interiors for an additional week so that I could work on the Bath installs and see what it is like to have tasks in other work stages. This week has been really full on but also really fun! On Monday and Tuesday I was in the office with Nadine helping out with the more financial side of projects (ordering items and making reselects, doing VAT things etc.) I am confident in doing this now that I know more about what I’m doing, I am also a lot more confident in answering the phone (in the first week I mentioned this is something that made me anxious) and I now don’t mind doing this.

Bath

Wednesday is when I went to Bath to assist on the installs of 5 apartments. We left at 7am and I returned home at around 8:30pm, so as you can tell it was a very full day. It was really interesting to go on an install and experience what it is like – I learnt that there has to be a lot of good team work and communication, everyone has to do their part to make it work. It was nice to go to Bath and have a little look around the area of the site while on my lunchbreak (it’s a great tourist area and I feel this ‘Air bnb’ style establishment will do extremely well due to this and the beautiful work done by the WN Interiors team). My favourite apartment so far is definitely the Penthouse, the views over Bath are beautiful and I especially like the balcony.

Although I really enjoyed the install work this week, I didn’t realize quite how much work goes into it – it’s definitely not as simple as it may seem! There is a lot of preliminary work done in terms of access and organizing deliveries to the site before you even get there. When I left on Wednesday there was still lots to be done, so I'm hoping to give more of a completed update next week.

Portsmouth

This week I have also developed my model for the student accommodation project, I tried out different colour ways from the scheme to see what they would look like, and created simple Sketchup visuals to show this. Below is an example of the pink scheme.

For this project I also created sections with dimensions to show the sizes of things in the space.

Wykeham

For the Wykeham show home project, I produced some 'Wall Finishes' documents, this is a document that shows exactly what walls the paint/finish will go onto, and also the name of the paint. This document gets handed over to the decorator so that they know exactly what walls they will be painting and with what. It is important to ensure that this document is clear and easily understandable. Below is an example of a Wall Finish document for the ground floor.

Reflection

It is nice to have seen the Bath project from start to finish (there was a turnaround of around 2 weeks). There were some things that I found challenging this week, like using AutoCAD and being more independent with my work, but I definitely feel as though I’m progressing, and I am really enjoying my time here. This week has been so busy that I've not really had time to reflect on it, however, it is great to see some real progression in projects and be involved with the work.
