So my placement starts in a week, scary stuff! I thought it would be quite interesting to have a little look deeper into WN Interiors and see what I will be walking into. I'm quite nervous but mostly excited to start. I have already briefly met Sarah, who is the Creative Director here at WN Interiors, and also Nadine who is her PA.
This is the team I will be working with. Sarah is the creative director who started the company in 2011. The company was previously Woadden Nash, which no longer exists and was renamed as WN Interiors. Sarah worked with Nadine at Woadden Nash who also came over to WN Interiors to work as her PA. Nick and Laura are the other two main interior designers who work alongside Sarah. There is also Karen who works part time in the office. The team all operate from the studio which is based in Poole.
Residential
WN Interiors specialise in both residential and commercial interior design. They have projects which they have worked on in the south region of the country, in places such as Bath, Bristol, Portsmouth and of course the Poole and Bournemouth area and many more.
One of my personal favourite residential projects that they showcase on their website is this "Luxury Family Home" where they picked up where the architect finished, and delivered "total turn key service" including; plan review, lighting design, full interior specification, bespoke joinery, kitchen and bathroom design, and furniture and furnishings. The services that they provided on this project also gave me an idea of what I will be doing during my time there, and is part of the reason why I applied to WN Interiors as their services are very broad and I will have an opportunity to explore different things in the industry.
Below are some pictures of the "luxury family home".
Developer
As well as residential interior design, WN Interiors also work with developers on commercial projects. An example of one of their projects with a developer is "Wykeham Court" for developers McCarthy & Stone. Wykeham Court is an age exclusive development in Hampshire, where WN Interiors were asked to design the interior, which consisted of '2 bed and 1 bed show apartments, a large communal lounge, the main entrance, all the communal hallways, a guest suite, communal kitchen and the sales and marketing suite.'
I am really looking forward to beginning my placement with WN Interiors and exploring both residential and commercial design in the real world. I am keen to learn more about the financial side of the industry and how much services etc cost. I am also keen to utilize the skills I have already gained at university at my placement and build upon them, as well as learn new skills. I feel that the 'Learning in the Workplace' unit was the right decision for me as I have never experienced an interiors/architecture related job in the real world - I feel that doing this placement will help me to decide what I am working towards when I hopefully graduate in 2020. My current idea is to work on redeveloping properties and working on older buildings - but we'll see!
